Lightning Round: the place where we ask THE hard-hitting, important life questions that you all need and want to know…

What made you start your blog?
I remember the exact moment I found my first blog. It was called future girl blog. My brother was googling images of owls and found an image of owls that was made out of felt. He showed it to me and I was amazed at how creative this individual was… I looked through all of their posts and kept thinking what in the world is this site? From that moment on, blogs had me hooked and for years I would ogle all the amazing eye candy happy at just looking. This past summer I felt like ‘just looking’ wasn’t enough any longer. I wanted to be a part of it, and so The Magical Bean blog was born.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Inspiration comes from everywhere. Nature is very inspiring to me, animals, trees, flowers…they all make me happy! Other artists inspire me too. My mother inspires me because she is so creative, as do the rest of my family!

How would you describe your blog in one sentence?
Eclectic, Made from Love, No patterns used, The idea kept me up all night, or I woke up with this wild idea and then I create, create, create until it is done – perfectionally creative.

Do you prefer muffins or cupcakes?
This is a hard question since I love both but if I had to choose it would be: muffins! Yes, I know…I know. How can I choose these over their sweet confectionary relatives the cupcakes? Well, the truth is that my mom makes the best possible pumpkin chocolate chip muffins ever. They are soooo good that I even dream I am eating them! J no joke. I actually did have a dream like that the other night!

If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?
I would most definitely choose to have the superpower of flying! I have put some serious thought into this and even though I think it would be cool to have x-ray vision, super strength, or any other power like breathing under water and so on… The instant I see a bird in flight, its wings sliding gracefully in the air, I feel a sudden longing to be like that, up in the air soaring weightless through the blue sky. Although I would opt for flight without wings, since I think wings could be rather cumbersome, and I am already a little bit clumsy in real life and could easily envision myself knocking someone down with them.

How do you take your tea?
I take my chai tea with milk and honey 🙂

Such a lovely girl and a great blog – definitely check out Callie’s amazing post below, featuring her own drawings and don’t forget to visit her blog!

Dream a little dream…

February 10, 2010

dreams surround me
drifting around me in the indigo sky
like fireflies
they burst with lemon tinted light
illuminating my mind to the
liminality of this moment
as I stand on this threshold of
possibility
I prepare myself for the time to come
the time for my dreams to be realized

Dreams connect us all, young, old, or somewhere in between, we all have dreams. Some dreams are fleeting, some long lasting, but really it’s the dreams that we follow and act on that matter.
The word liminality meant very little to me before I was asked to do this post. In fact I had never heard of it before and had to look it up in the dictionary to find the meaning. Upon learning it, it makes sense that these two words stand connected. Dreams all have a starting point, a threshold so to speak, liminality, and it is at that moment when we leap fearlessly into the future hoping upon hope that our dreams will become reality.

My dreams are only just beginning. I have dreams of being an illustrator of children’s books,

traveling the world,
finding true love,
starting a family,
running my own business,
opening a knit and crochet café,

and so many others that at times I wonder which one to follow.
But that’s part of the fun of it, and that’s what makes life an adventure, one I hope you’ll travel along with me.

XOXO, Callie

Lightning Round: the place where we ask THE hard-hitting, important life questions that you all need and want to know…

Your favorite movie quote is?

Oh goodness! You have no idea how much of a movie buff I am…well my whole family actually. I have quite a few choices but my favorite is probably from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, (with a French accent of course)

“Your Mother Is a Hamster and Your Father Smells of Elderberries”

Genius. Simply genius.

The song that never fails to make you crazy-dance is?

I’m a dancer. Well not professionally of course, but I love to dance. Many times my sister has walked in on me shaking my stuff, I think I’m pretty good, she doesn’t completely agree. Haha. So anyways! Lately my favorite dancing song is Knocks You Down by Keri Hilson (among others). There was one night when I was dancing around, just for my own enjoyment of course, and decided I wanted to attempt a ballerina jumpy, twisty thingy. So I did! And I landed weird, causing my left foot to go sideways and CRACK! I ended up with a sprained foot. Needless to say, I keep my ballerina interpretation minimal after that incident!

What TV show would you like your life to be?

You know, I really love my life and all the amazing people that are close to me! But for questions sake, if I had to choose a TV show it would probably be Scrubs. I love all the characters especially JD, Turk, the Janitor, Dr. Cox, Elliot, Carla… well pretty much everyone on the show! I’m not the only one who loves this show. You see, my family will be scattered all over the house, doing their own thing until someone yells, “SCRUBS IS ON!” And then everybody plops down on the coach and the laughing commences.

If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?

Holy guacamole! This is one thing I have certainly considered. Okay, remember that one show Heroes, which used to be really cool until Sylar never actually died and they began killing all the main characters off? You know Season Uno? Well anyways, I would love to have Hiro Nakamura’s power! He could teleport and stop time. Oooh if only! If not that then there’s always apparition, after all I do attend Hogwarts and am besties with Harry himself. 😉

Isn’t she delightful? I love her! Check out her lovely guest post below and remember to drop by her blog and say hi!
What a great start to 2010!

Liminality and dreams…

February 3, 2010

Things have changed. When I began my blog, I was unsure about so many things in my life and on my blog. “What am I supposed to blog about?” “How do I get people to look at my blog?” Those are just some of the many questions that flooded my mind. Then there was school, which was just around the corner. I was nervous and afraid that things would be like the previous year: difficult. But as school started up again, I suddenly started finding my way…making better friends, enjoying my classes, and my blog began to reflect that. Many things have changed and come true, I am still in a slight state of liminality but things will continue to change as my dreams are put forth and I discover even more of myself.

In the future…

I want to find a career that I enjoy doing

Continue being close to my
crazy, funny, lovely, energetic, amazing family!
(haha wow that’s a mouthful!)

Find some way to use all the French I learned…
Besides saying random bits to my friends…:D

Move somewhere that snows…

Write a book

Find love

Open a Patisserie

And keep blogging! 🙂
So I can continue getting to know wonderful people like YOU! Hehe.

Gather round and meet… Molly!

Blog: My name is Yeh

Blogger: Molly

Location: New York

Wow, she sounds great… tell me more: She also lives in New York, is incredibly creative and loves food which gives a great variety to her posts.

Lightning Round: the place where we ask THE hard-hitting, important life questions that you all need and want to know…

{What made you start your blog?}
I’ve always kept journals. Since I first read Amelia’s Notebook in the second grade, there hasn’t been a time in my life when I didn’t keep a journal. I write about daily happenings and people and ideas and adventures and stuff… and it’s sort of silly though because I always write as if I’m writing for an audience, but I never let anybody read them! I guess there was sort of this idea in the back of my mind that I’ll once upon a time bury all of my journals and have somebody a zillion years in the future read them. But, I mean, I’d rather have quicker satisfaction than that. So I would say it is the desire to have people read about my adventures paired with the discovery of The English Muse and the Rockstar Diaries and Nico Muhly’s blog , {also add one terrible creative growth stunting relationship that had just ended}, and there you have it: the birth of Mister Blog!

{Where do you get your inspiration from?}
I like to think that I lead an exciting life, but at the same time, I think it is actually the idea of a blog that inspires me to do things (as opposed to the things I do or see being inspiration to blog). What I mean is, since the birth of Mister Blog, I’ve been more inclined to try new things for the sake of a good post. Someone will stick some gross looking concoction in front of my face and say, “eat this!” And whereas six months ago I would have looked at them as if they were absolutely nuts, these days I rather think, “Well if this tastes like shit, it will surely make a good blog post…” Or. I’ll be sitting in some weird bizarre social situation (imagine, my latest where I somehow found myself at an Upper East Side Christmas party full of what I imagine were former fraternity brothers and sorority sistas (now in their late twenties) dressed in Santa hats and not much else…) and the only reason it doesn’t completely suck is because I’ll be looking to find some hilarious way to write about it. This usually makes the whole situation way more amusing.
Granted, those posts usually don’t make the final cut because of my two rules for my blog. Those are:
1. No sad things
2. No bad words.
Except for sometimes. But I also love writing about food, specifically mustard and cheese (and the ever-famous mustard cheese).

{Muffins or cupcakes?}
Ok, so my school is literally within a ten-block radius of Crumbs, Buttercup Bake Shop, Magnolia Bakery… and a few blocks further is Kyotofu… I am spoiled rotten in cupcakes. And they’re all delicious (especially the red velvet at Crumbs). But, if I must be honest, what I really want to do right now more than anything is to march in to my school’s cafeteria, rip off the top of a corn muffin, eat it, and then throw away the bottom. Is that SO lame?!

{If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?}
Is a British accent considered a superpower?

{How do you take your tea?}
Accompanied by a three-tiered plate of sandwiches, scones, and sweets at Alice’s Tea Cup with mum when she visits me in New York.

A huge apology to Molly who was great at getting me her answers and post to me in time – its my fault that this didn’t get posted in December – I forgot that although I was taking a break from my blog, I wasn’t taking one from Diamonds.

However its not the dates that matter but the guest blogger and her blog – so check out Molly’s fantastic post below and definitely check out her fantastic blog! I promise you won’t be dissapointed!

All I want for Christmas… (December Theme)

January 4, 2010

All I want for Christmas… that money can’t buy

1. For cheese to be at the bottom of the food pyramid.

2. A ride on the Polar Express.

3. To be a camper at summer camp again.

4. For my apartment to be transplanted a few yards away, on to Riverside drive with a view of the Hudson.

5. To be fluent in French, German, Russian, Mandarin, and Magyar.

6. A castle in the Berkshires. Or anywhere, really.

7. A soda machine in my apartment. But instead of storing soda, it would store mustard.

8. A unicorn!

Did you get that all, Santa?
K, Thanks 🙂

Happy holidays, everybody!!

Molly xx
